A 17 year old, Vagn Larsen, lay in a Danish hospital in serious condition after swallowing a five inch cardboard rocket that fired in his mouth. Friends recounted the delayed New Year party incident when he asked a friend to light the fuse with a cigarette. The rocket became lodged in his gullet and exploded in his chest.
Montevideo police say British Ambassador Godfrey Jackson was kidnapped this morning and is in the hands of the Tupamaros guerrillas.
A tank car carrying liquid ammonia exploded on a mainline bridge of the Burlington Northern railroad near Callao and New Cambria Missouri. Ammonia fumes prompted evacuations of nearby farm families and a regional alert for residents to stay alert for fumes.
