Neosho Memorial Hospital unveils diploma parchment birth certificates with a hospital emblem image and handlettered name. Official records remain centrally preserved. the first Certificate went to Ray and Mrs. Atkins for their son Richard Alan, presented by administrator Elsie Ellis.
Six Tennessee men were killed in a head on crash with a gasoline tank truck on U S 68 two miles north of Kenton Ohio. Victims tentatively identified as Floyd Clark 22 Herbert Goings 41 Richard Kelly 28 Horace Boyd 24 Robert D Lee 21 and John B Gibson 32. The tanker driver Albert Fohl 24 of Tiffin Ohio was hospitalized with lacerations. Road conditions were reported good.
The Weather Bureau forecast colder temperatures for Kansas tonight and Thursday with fog and drizzle in eastern areas ending tonight. Lows dip to 15 in the northwest and 50 in the southeast, while Thursday highs range from 25 to 35. Top readings yesterday ranged from 34 at Olathe to 51 at Goodland.
Topeka Kansas report lists traffic fatalities by the State Accident Records Section. In the last 24 hours the year to date totals show 7 deaths in 1959 versus 9 in the same period of 1958.

A Bakersfield workman, 40, was freed after more than 12 hours trapped in a collapsed cess pool 24 feet deep. A crane, hooking his trapped foot, allowed him to crawl out as rescuers and spectators cheered. He was sedated, fed soup, and rushed to a hospital in good condition.
Anastas I. Mikoyan, Soviet Union second in command, arrived in Cleveland to start a 13 day coast to coast tour amid protest by several hundred nationality groups. He met Cyrus Eaton and family, spoke Russian with Mrs Eaton, and described his aviation connections before heading to Detroit and the West Coast en route to Washington for talks with President Eisenhower.
Two new members join the Bank of Commerce board after yesterday's stockholders meeting. Margaret Bodley is reelected and Bruce Burris becomes a first-time director. Existing directors Balch Bodley Gough Jones Lewis McCune Turner remain. Officers elected include Gough president Turner cashier Lewis EVP LTO Bodley VP Umbarger AVP Gorton AVP Jordan AC.
Dr. Dale Alford of Little Rock was seated today as a member of the new House. He had unseated the veteran Brooks Hays last November and took the oath of office alone in the well after members adopted a resolution to give him a capital recognition.
Alaska’s two senators and one representative took oaths, expanding the 86th Congress to 436 House members and 8 senators. A dusty Senate storeroom box drew slips to set term lengths, Gruening drawing four years and Bartlett two. Rivers remains the sole Alaska House member.
A Reno County jail escapee from Hutchinson was reportedly captured in Amarillo Texas. Sheriff Roy Shepard confirmed Ralph England was nabbed in Amarillo, but fellow fugitive John Beeson remained at large.
The 86th Congress convened amid leadership changes and a looming clash over Senate rules to curb filibusters. Everett Dirksen named GOP floor leader. Joseph W. Martin ousted as House leader, replaced by Charles Halleck. Civil rights voting rights debate fuels party splits. Vice President Nixon says the Senate may adopt new rules by a majority vote.
In Topeka the Kansas House Republican race for speaker pits Rep. Jess Taylor against Max Dice with Rep. T. M. Murrell as floor leader contender and Rep. John Bowers as possible speaker candidate. Democrats seek reelection of minority leaders as state Senate and House incumbents hold over.
Grant High School and Erie sheriff's office corrected the address of one of two youths charged in the Eugene Lee garage break-in. Carl Cox, 17, is said to live near Stark not Savenburg as first reported. A second Carl Cox, age ~17, resides at Savenburg and attended Grant. Both youths admit involvement. Cox and James Shoemaker, 16, face charges from Lavonbury. Their bonds are set at 1000 dollars each. preliminary hearing January 14 at Erie justice court.
Emergency vehicle rules require motorists to pull over and stop when warning siren or red lights are active. City police department directs drivers to yield to responding units and proceed only when safe.
Chanute Chamber of Commerce industrial committee launches a drive for contributions from local businesses. Kenneth Brown chairs calls to boost the fund aimed at buying a home site costing 10,000 with excess for landscaping. Additional city support and future chamber sessions are planned including a home show, Education Day, and a 4 H leaders program.
Washington AP Dirksen of Illinois won the Senate GOP floor leadership 20 to 14 over John Sherman Cooper of Kentucky with all Republicans voting. The liberal faction led by George Aiken of Vermont criticized the result while Kuchel faced Mundt in the contest. Bridges Saltonstall and Young were re elected to key Republican posts.
A father Mark Kelly about 38 and his five children Jim 16 Dennis 12 Pat 14 Mary Lee 10 and Peggy 3 died in a Brandon Minnesota two story home fire. Kelly re entered to try to save the youngsters. Neighbors stopped Mrs. Kelly from re entering. Police say the victims likely suffocated. The blaze began around 2 30 am and the interior was burned out. Brandon has about 400 residents located about 160 miles northwest of Minneapolis.
The Air Force identified six of seven airmen who died in a dorm fire at Syracuse University, noting one remains unnamed. Missing is Staff Sergeant Thomas P. Merfeld, 28, husband of Donna Marie in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Deceased are Airman First Class Billy D. Marlow, 29, Converse Texas. Michael K. Gasparri, 19, Yonkers. Edward E. Duggan, 23, Manning, Delaware?. Joseph E. Stoll Jr., 18, Norwalk Ohio. Remus A. Tidewell, 18, Ocala Alabama. Frederick M. Browning, 21, Enfield North Carolina.

The body of 57 year old H. Stemple was found in his Parsons residence after a Tuesday fire call. Fire Chief Ted Baze reported a large chair burned in the front room while Stemple, fully clothed, lay on a bed. his dog was found dead at the bed’s foot. Fire damage was mainly in the front room. Harley Harry Howard aged 61 sustained fatal injuries in a collision near Rozel Kansas when his pickup truck collided with a passenger car yesterday.
