The annual report by librarian Mrs. Pearl Hallenberg shows Chanute patrons checked out 47 235 books in 1954 up from 41 138 in 1953 with 25 677 from the children's desk and 21 558 from the adult section. There were 5 363 borrowers and 609 new cards. total library holdings stood at 24 895. Weather data record 30.36 inches precipitation in 1954, below the long term average but above 1953.

Injured Bus Driver Improves at Neosho Memorial Hospital
E. L. Emison of Tulsa, the bus driver hurt in a collision north of Chanute Tuesday night, was reported improved at Neosho Memorial Hospital. He sustained serious fractures to his right leg when his Southern Kansas Greyhound Lines bus struck the rear of a semi trailer truck.

LeRoy Adolph of Independence Kansas was sentenced to 15 years for the $9,000 American State Bank robbery in Oswego Kansas on November 27. George Bailey, jailed for 10 to 20 years for burglary and grand larceny in Neosho County, will seek parole March 31.
