The Detroit funeral home rents a drive-in window installed last August as the principal viewing method. Owner Frank Givens notes 50 to 100 people drive in for each viewing, register by signing a card, and drop it into a box. names are later transferred to a registry book.
Birmingham Michigan city officials dropped plans to host disadvantaged youths under the national A Better Chance program after strong opposition from local homeowners in the affluent all white suburb. High school students also opposed the plan calling it patronizing. The district now has three Black high school students.
Kansas City AP reports two men arrested within minutes of the South Side Bank robbery. $5,000 recovered, one suspect wounded by a pursuing officer. FBI says first two suspects, Richard Anthony Coleman 18 and Earl Anthony Garnett 24, to be arraigned on federal bank robbery charges.
