Arkansas City Kan AP The Chamber of Commerce received a wall clock on Thursday. C R Rose superintendent of Santa Fe Railroad Oklahoma division joked it will be replaced if it doesn’t run another 75 years. The clock, built in 1884, has served as an official Santa Fe timepiece since 1888.

Rovito Buys Tioga Specialty Shop from Bain

Mrs Rovito announces purchase of the Tioga Specialty Shop from Mrs Elizabeth Bain effective Wednesday. She plans to restock merchandise and remodel the interior. Bain makes no further statements. Mrs Rovito, wife of area music instructor Joe Rovito, disclosed the sale.

New Nursing Class Enrolls 23 Women from Kansas and Oklahoma

A year long program starts with classroom studies for 23 women from 13 Kansas cities and one Oklahoma city. Beginning week ten they begin clinical practice at Neosho Memorial Hospital with half staying for further training and half moving to Coffeyville. Two new instructors Mrs Letty Gaier and Mrs Andrea Ruth Grajeda, both from Parsons, join the staff with BS nursing degrees.

Orville L. Moulton 54 of 620 W Oak and Charles Midcap 18 of R1 were admitted to Neo sho Memorial Hospital after a three car crash at 3rd and Highland around 3 25 p m yesterday both were bruised but not seriously hurt Midcap was released this morning Moulton remained under observation no injuries found in examinations A 1959 Ford station wagon owned by Eric Anderson was parked at the scene Damage estimates place the Moulton Chevrolet at 900 and Andersons at 300 Police also filed reports of two earlier minor accidents today involving James D Shelor 46 and Carolyn Fulps 22 and a third in front of the Memorial building with Robert Manley and C F Gamble The report also notes a nursing school class update with new instructors and equipment funded by the federal government continuing training through June 15 and plans for ongoing classes

Stork Derby Nearing End Amid Lingering Wait

On its third day the Chanute Stork Derby has yet to produce a claimant for the merchants prizes. An expectant mother admitted to Neosho Memorial Hospital listed Kansas City as her address, rendering her ineligible. Memphis AP reports the city utilities division received a customer call describing lights and radio turning on at sundown and failing to work in daylight. A clerk said the service wire was tapped into a street light circuit fed only during dark hours, causing the anomaly.

Jail Sentence for Roy K Cheney on Tag Use Charge

Roy K Cheney of Humboldt was returned from Fort Scott by the Erie sheriff on a city court warrant for illegal tag use. He faced an indefinite jail term until a $10 fine and $13 costs are paid, and was told to pay a $40 balance of a $50 Chanute police court fine or face further commitment.
