New U S super jet fighter unveiled by Johnson

President Johnson announced a new long range interceptor claimed to far exceed all others then in use. Nine Children Die In Troy Fire Tragedy

A three story brick home near Troy center burned killing nine members of the Sousie family and injuring others. Napoleon B Sousie 43 and wife Lillian 40 were hospitalized with burns while son Robert about 16 was in critical condition. The eight Sousie children identified ranged from 4 to 18 and a grandchild Judy Stone aged 2 also perished. Police say flames trapped victims on the second and third floors as a kerosene space heater on the second floor may have sparked the blaze.

Charles Whetsel of Indianapolis drove from Louisville to Frankfort Friday night before realizing his son John Whetsel age 10 had been left behind. John visited a service station restroom when the father paused at a Louisville store. Louisville police later took the boy into custody.

Fatal Shooting at Kansas City Tavern

A 32 year old man was shot and killed at a Kansas City tavern early today. Police are holding Samuel Jones Hogan 43 a tavern bouncer. Hogan says Brown a Black man and several others were ordered out for a disturbance and Brown and others returned leading to the fatal shooting.

A 23 year old man was fatally stabbed Friday night on a front porch in Kansas City. The assailant escaped, and police urged anyone with information to come forward.

Train Car Crash Kills 3 Students

Three Shawnee Heights High School students died in a collision between a car and a Santa Fe passenger train east of Topeka. Names listed: Daryl L. Patrick 16 Loren Morlan 15 and Robert L. Schutz 15. Another student, Robert D. Neff 14, was critically injured. The train neared at about 85 mph. the car at 70 75 mph. the car was near the crossing when seen. A suburban Shawnee Heights dance was scheduled after a basketball game.

Willits Woman Crawls 350-Foot Embankment to Survival

Myrtle Scott a 50 year old real estate saleswoman from Santa Rosa and Harvey Wells 68 were riding east on State Highway 20 when the car rolled backward off a 350 foot embankment. Scott crawled through freezing night to safety aided by three truck drivers. She suffered broken ribs a dislocated elbow concussion and multiple cuts and scrapes. Wells is presumed dead.
