In downtown Chanute residents discuss juror impartiality for Dallas Ruby trial. W. H. Schulte of Girard says he could serve without prejudice, noting no strong convictions. Jerry Weis of 222 E. 7th opposes serving, believing Ruby is guilty and should face punishment under the law.
President Johnson announced a new long range interceptor claimed to far exceed all others then in use. Built with Lockheed in charge and Pratt and Whitney engines, the plane reportedly flies over 2000 mph at altitudes up to 70000 feet and utilizes a titanium fabrication process. Johnson also named several high level nominations and discussed security measures during his Florida trip.

A three story brick home near Troy center burned killing nine members of the Sousie family and injuring others. Charles Whetsel of Indianapolis drove from Louisville to Frankfort Friday night before realizing his son John Whetsel age 10 had been left behind. John visited a service station restroom when the father paused at a Louisville store. Louisville police later took the boy into custody.
A 32 year old man was shot and killed at a Kansas City tavern early today. Police are holding Samuel Jones Hogan 43 a tavern bouncer. Hogan says Brown a Black man and several others were ordered out for a disturbance and Brown and others returned leading to the fatal shooting.
A Cuban exile described black market prices including an old pair of shoes at 80 pesos and a peso being valued as one dollar. He also cited an egg at 40 cents a can of condensed milk at 1 peso and a pound of coffee at 10 pesos.
A 23 year old man was fatally stabbed Friday night on a front porch in Kansas City. The assailant escaped, and police urged anyone with information to come forward.
Three Shawnee Heights High School students died in a collision between a car and a Santa Fe passenger train east of Topeka. Names listed: Daryl L. Patrick 16 Loren Morlan 15 and Robert L. Schutz 15. Another student, Robert D. Neff 14, was critically injured. The train neared at about 85 mph. the car at 70 75 mph. the car was near the crossing when seen. A suburban Shawnee Heights dance was scheduled after a basketball game.
West Germany's parliament approved the continued sale of canned kangaroo tail soup while banning canned kangaroo meat after tests found salmonella in some meat and related infections.
Wellington, Kan. Fred J. Meeker, 68, a Wellington salesman, was killed Friday night in a head-on collision on a curve of U.S. 81 about 14 miles north of Wellington. Three youths in the other car escaped injury.

Police and the Erie sheriff’s office continue an investigation expected to resolve several recent property offenses tied to several Chanute teens. Four boys are named in the beer keg theft, joyriding, and related break in at Erie Farmers Coop. Two boys implicated in tire and wheel theft sold in Nebraska for $30. Names withheld pending charges.
Myrtle Scott a 50 year old real estate saleswoman from Santa Rosa and Harvey Wells 68 were riding east on State Highway 20 when the car rolled backward off a 350 foot embankment. Scott crawled through freezing night to safety aided by three truck drivers. She suffered broken ribs a dislocated elbow concussion and multiple cuts and scrapes. Wells is presumed dead.
