Two men robbed the Bob Montgomery liquor store in Independence last night. Mrs Montgomery said between 150 and 200 dollars in currency was taken. A negro man stood outside while another entered, pointed a revolver at her, and demanded all the money she had.
Kansas class AA basketball regionals set for March 8 to 12 with eight regional hosts and spots for the state final at Kansas State College field House Manhattan March 17 to 19. Teams include Ottawa Argentine Chanute Fort Scott Independence Pittsburg Parsons Altamont Coffeyville Columbus and more from Dodge City Lawrence Salina Mission Wellington Wichita districts.
Kansas state accident records show 1 fatality in the last 24 hours bringing 1955 year-to-date count to 73, compared with 84 deaths for the same period in 1954.

Edward C. Hagemann age 55 of Joliet Illinois was killed when a truck loaded with ammunition struck the rear of another truck six miles east of Kinsley Kansas. The crash occurred today and authorities described it as a fatal highway mishap with both drivers as yet unidentified.

Ph Frank Berry, head of a St Joseph barber college, was fined 10 dollars in Magistrate Court for barbering without a license. Berry, 74, has operated the college 17 years and graduated about 500 barbers and said he will appeal.
Raymond Tipple, 49, appeared in court on schedule yesterday after officers noted a bulge in his pocket. He was hustled out and relieved of a revolver found on him.

Represented by Kenneth Foust and J D Conderman. Also notes Ike Jones trial for assault with intent to kill continuing in Chanute. Henry Fields trial moved to May.
A mistrial was declared by District Judge B M Dunham in the Ike Jones case of Chanute. The judge ruled the county attorney's opening statement prejudicial and ordered the jury dismissed. The case was rescheduled for trial in the May term.
A veteran fire captain perished battling flames that swept a downtown shoe repair shop and a hardware store in Washington. At least ten other firemen were overcome or injured. Capt. George Flaherty, with 25 years of service, collapsed in a smoke filled basement and died at Emergency Hospital.
