Coffeyville approves accepting a donated 120 ton Santa Fe steam locomotive to be moved to Forest Park. The move faces a transportation challenge after shipment from Chanute. The city commission voted to accept the locomotive despite the logistics.
A crash near Pittsburg killed Mrs. Bertha M. Akin of Waterloo IA and critically injured her daughter Mrs. Rudolph John Guenther of Davenport IA. Rev C J Askins recalls baptising Mrs Akin and believes Guenther is Akin’s daughter. neither can receive visitors. In nearby Yates Center oil activity prompts Gordon Dulinsky to be named oil assessor. Clarence E Roth, 85, pioneer oil producer, died. he drilled 800 wells since 1903 with notable Thrall pool discovery.
The infant son of Stafford County Sheriff Charles Sanford received his first bottle feeding yesterday marking a milestone. Born February 5 at St. John Kas underwent surgery at St. Francis hospital six hours after birth after arriving by plane from Pratt to treat intestines outside the body. A nurse said the child is getting better.
Mrs. Kate Schmitz aged 82 died in a fire at her Effingham home where she lived alone. Firefighters found the body and began investigations into the blaze.
