Abduction case leads to surrender of Baldwin man
One of two men sought for abducting and beating Baldwin police officer Mike Shute surrendered at a service station in Olathe Kansas. Pat McGinnis of Baldwin turned himself in after alerting Douglas County sheriff. The other suspect Robert Wagoner remained at large with authorities pursuing leads in the Kansas City area. The officer described being roughed up during the traffic stop near dawn. Bill McGinnis was arrested for aiding a felon. A female driver who aided the suspects was questioned but denied knowledge of the manhunt.

Local artists exhibit at Chapman Library features Cross and Huffman
Neosho Valley Arts Council hosts an exhibit at Chapman Library on the NCCJC campus from Monday to February 21. Bob Huffman shows 15 metal sculptures while Bob Cross presents pencil, ink drawings, oil and acrylic paintings, welded sculpture, ceramics, pots, and wall hangings. Cross, an art educator, and Huffman, a NCCJC student, are state award winners in Recreation and Parks art shows in Overland Park and Chanute. Huffman began with lessons from Lillian Grimes and welding by his father Wayne, has gallery sales and awards, and studies pottery with Omar Knoll in Iola. Cross earned a BS and MS in art education from Kansas State College of Pittsburg, teaches in Chanute, and has shown in multiple fairs and galleries nationwide.
