Tass reports the Soviet remote controlled moonbuggy Lunck awakened from lunar night and moved 1 060 feet after a radio signal from earth. The craft landed in the Sea of Rains last November 17 and resumed activity following ground control signals.

Neosho County conservation awards honored three farm families

Three Neosho County farm families were honored at the Neosho County Soil Conservation District dinner at the high school gym Saturday. The Augstines, Umbargers, and the O'Brien family were recognized for extensive soil conservation work on hundreds of acres. Joe O'Brien was a longtime district board member who died recently. Community leaders and 400 attendees attended the event.

National Guard in Wilmington battles racial violence

In Wilmington North Carolina National Guard troops withdrew to a staging area as a cold drizzle began and two people were killed during five nights of racial violence. Col Barrie Davis said troops would patrol after dark and that last night was very quiet with gunfire sounds before dawn but no injuries reported.
