Four Americans Freed From East Germany in Prison Release

Wild gas well fire erupts near Wellington
Sumner County gas well on Harry River farm nine miles NW of Wellington blew out and caught fire on Thursday night. Drillers and Wellington firefighters fought the blaze as heavy drilling mud used to curb gas began burping from the 2,960-foot hole at 4 p.m. Friday. If the hole is lost total damage could reach about $50,000. drilling could resume within a week with extra help from an oil well service firm.

Fire on Gulf drilling platform leaves five missing
A spectacular fire on a Gulf of Mexico drilling platform 35 miles southeast of Cameron Louisiana burned through the night. Five workers were missing as salvage crews and boats prepared to search at daylight. One survivor, R E Campbell of Alleyton Texas, described hearing a explosion and diesel fuel igniting. The platform and its drilling rig are valued at about 500000 dollars each. Four gas wells from the CATCO joint venture had been completed. one was being reworked by Crown Drilling Co with other oil field service workers aboard. The 100 by 70 foot rig stands about 70 feet above water.
