President Johnson urged Congress to extend and improve farm price support programs. He aimed to raise parity of opportunity for rural Americans and tied the measures to the original 30 year old New Deal farm program launched under Franklin D. Roosevelt.
An earthquake centered near Amchitka Alaska—slightly less powerful than last March’s deadly quake—shook Alaska’s Aleutian chain late Wednesday. No casualties or major damage were reported, and tidal wave alerts were later canceled as seas calmed and routines resumed.
The bloodmobile drive in Chanute over two days collected 251 pints, 11 over the 240 pint quota. Total donors included 26 rejects yesterday and 13 today. Notable gains: Fred Robertson reached five gallons, Alfred Serrato and Joe Balch hit four gallons, and several others reached two or more gallons.

Wilson County health officer Dr F A Moorhead announced the second and last Oral Polio Vaccine Clinic will be held Sunday from 10 30 a m to 3 p m at the Neodesha Armory and the Fredonia Court House. Immunization shots for diphtheria whooping cough and tetanus will also be available for children six weeks to 10 years old.
