Leap Saves Youth In Erie Train Collision Near St Paul
Harold Van Leeuwen 21 escaped serious injury when his 1949 sedan was demolished in a grade crossing crash with a Katy passenger train six miles east and half a mile south of here around noon yesterday. He had a small head cut and a cut on the left hand with shock, treated and released. Sheriff Lee Montgomery said Van Leeuwen related he could not stop on an icy road and swung toward a post to avoid the train, but the car still was struck as both vehicles collided along the tracks toward Parsons. The train crew’s speed was not available.
