Nine Miners Die In Colorado Coal Mine Blast
Nine miners were killed in a methane gas explosion at the No 1 Dutch Creek coal mine in western Colorado near Redstone. All workers were residents of the Carbondale-Glenwood Springs area. The blast caused minor property damage and the area was closed to the public.

Car-Train Crash Fatal Near Buffalo Claims Jake Cutler
Jake Cutler of Buffalo was killed when his pickup collided with a Missouri Pacific freight train at a county crossing. The 65 year old, thrown from the truck, died instantly. The southbound train, traveling about 60 mph, carried the truck 78 feet. Cutler, a retired Acme Brick Co. employee, is survived by his widow and five daughters, two sisters, and a son of Lamar, Missouri. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Christian church with burial in Buffalo cemetery. Cason Funeral Home of Fredonia is handling arrangements.

Mike Busby 16 of Kansas City faced police and highway patrol charges after a car chase. He received 10 days in county jail for reckless driving. a drive license charge was dismissed. He was fined 25 dollars and jailed until payment for speeding and improper registration. He was taken into custody at 12:45 a.m. and held in city jail before Erie appearance.

Ekart Named Kansas Farm Bureau Safety Director
Ekart R. Deloert of Chanute appointed safety director for Kansas Farm Bureau by KFB President Walter C. Peirce. He previously served as associate safety director from 1961 to August 1965 and as Farm Bureau fieldman in southeast Kansas. He will replace Drkce Sexton, who resigned after 17 years.
