Osage City High School class of 1937 member Mrs. A E McDermott asks Tribune readers to locate former Chanute resident Ethel Snyder, a home economics teacher in Osage City in 1936 37. Mrs. Snyder was said to be married and living in Chanute 10 15 years ago.
Robert Fullerton submitted a resignation effective January 1 through City Manager R J Hayes. He leaves after about five years with the force to take a job in another town. He and his family reside at 421 W 4th.
AP report lists Kansas traffic deaths in the 24 hours to 9 am Friday with December totals and comparisons to 1961 and 1960. Both fatalities occurred earlier in the period.
New Year’s Eve spans states with Blue Laws limiting liquor sales causing varied costs and rules. In many places churches host watch services while some clubs serve at 12:01 a.m. Prices for New Year’s Eve dinners run up to about 35 dollars per person, with drinks costing extra and chaperones demanding larger tips.

Gov. John Anderson announced the reappointment of Whitley Austin a Salina editor to the Kansas State Board of Regents. He also named Henry A. Bubb of Topeka to the board replacing Russell R. Rust, with further appointments including Mrs. James S. Pritchard Shawnee County election commissioner Arlene L. Beall to the State Board of Education and Chris C. Green to the State Water Resources Board.
The Red Cross collected 133 pints of blood by 1 30 p.m. at First Methodist Church. The drive aimed to reach a 16 pint quota before 2 15 p.m. and surpassed it.
A Mack semi truck loaded with 47 000 pounds of shelled corn caught fire four miles north of Parsons on US 59 around 3 30 p m. The blaze started from a hot tire, damaging the truck floor and corn. One third of the load burned. Driver Michael J Anglum 32 uninjured. Fire units from Parsons kept the flames under control by seven p m. Estimated damages include 5000 to the truck 1000 to the trailer floor and 800 to corn.
Eight inmates at Missouri prison are in solitary confinement after Rollie Laster's latest escape attempt. Laster, 28, serving life, escaped his bar cell Thursday by slugging a guard until other guards intervened. The warden said the men are stripped to shorts with two blankets as officers search for a hacksaw source.
President Kennedy plans a new farm program described as modernized for the 1960s. Secretary Freeman reports general presidential approval and says the plan will be in a special agriculture message to Congress and the State of the Union. Freeman spoke after a three hour Palm Beach meeting with Kennedy and advisers.
Chanute merchants offer a wide assortment of prizes for the first baby born in 1962 in the Chanute trade territory. Victor James Jr. was the 1961 area’s first birth and set the pace for the annual Stork Derby with gifts from eleven donors including a diaper bag, baby shoes, a $5 gift certificate, an infant seat, birth cards, a savings account, dry cleaning, a baby sweater, diapers, cigars for the father, and a hi fi records album for the mother.
City issues windshield decal parking permits for long term or frequent metered parking. Each annual permit costs 24 dollars and is valid on the issued vehicle only. Prorated options at 21 dollars a month are available for remaining year. Replacement after transfer is free. Purchases at city clerk office with receipt to police department. 32 permits issued in 1961.

The National Safety Council scoreboard for the first 11 months of 1960 shows Manhattan leading the 10 000 to 25 000 population bracket with no fatalities, tied with Pampa Texas and Renton Washington. Topeka ranks second in the 100 000 to 200 000 bracket with 0.6 deaths per 10 000 registered vehicles.
Three Texans were seriously wounded after a holiday party in Keyes Oklahoma. Jose Saenz 18 Evelyn Spradlin about 16 and John Vannata about 40 all from the Keyes area were identified by Sheriff Bill McKnight as victims. The incident began when Saenz called Spradlin outside and opened fire on the front porch with a .22 rifle and buckshot. Spradlin is hospitalized in Elkhart Kansas as the most seriously wounded.
Senator Andrew F. Schoeppel of Kansas plans to rejoin Senate duties in January pending physician advice after a return to Bethesda Naval Hospital for intra abdominal neoplasm treatment and prior diverticulitis. Administrative assistant Joe Skubitz said the patient is progressing satisfactorily and will decide on roll call participation with medical guidance.
