Christmas mailing rush and city water upgrades noted

Statue Toppled by Egyptians in Port Said Protest

In Port Said Egyptians toppled a statue of Ferdinand de Lesseps, the Suez Canal builder, amid joy over the French and British withdrawal. They dented the statue but toppled it as the UN salvage fleet awaits Egypt's go ahead to begin work south of the harbor. Dag Hammarskjold was expected to visit Cairo to discuss salvage crew use.

Plane Delay Leaves West Point Cadet's Family Dark

Mr and Mrs Charles R Wilson of Pittsburg Kansas planned a Christmas reunion with their son a West Point cadet and John Stewart Wilson but a National Guard plane bringing other cadets home was grounded in New York. En route near Altoona their car collided. Mrs Wilson 42 died at Neodesha hospital the husband suffered broken ribs and bruises. The son arrived home later that morning.

Dannenberg Home Is Tops In Decorations

The L M Dannenberg home at 1201 N Garfield won Chanute Kiwanis Club first prize for best decorations in last night’s judging. Second went to Mr. and Mrs Bill Peters of 5 S Larson and third to Mr. and Mrs. Harry E Wilson at 21 S Larson. Token prizes of 10 5 and 4 were to be mailed.
