Richard Rogers at 1505 W 14th logged OSCAR the satellite calling in Morse code, circling the globe every 91 minutes since its Wednesday launch for ham radio operators. He taped the signal between 1 and 1 10 p m today.

U S Prestige Sears No Seat for Red China United Nations

The General Assembly rejected Soviet led efforts to seat Communist China with a 48 36 vote and 20 abstentions. The United States backed Chiang Kai shek and declared the result a victory for nationalists and U S prestige. Britain supported the U S on the two thirds rule but sided with the Soviets on seating Red China. France Finland Denmark Iceland and many Western European and Latin American nations joined the U S in opposing Peiping seating.

Two Workmen Die in Sewer Ditch Cave-In at Abbey

In Conception Junction Missouri two St. Joseph men, W. D. Bonar age 38 and Raymond Young age 49, were killed when a sewer ditch 15 feet deep collapsed at the Conception Abbey site. Rescue attempts with bulldozers and hand tools lasted hours before bodies were recovered.

Haysville Dentist Dies in Wichita Crash

In Wichita a Haysville dentist Dr. Bert Bass 55 died after his car collided with a vehicle driven by Mrs. Gilbert Fox 37. Fox and her three sons were hospitalized in fair condition.

Petefish in Custody in Oskaloosa Iowa

Robert Petefish formerly of Chanute is jailed in Oskaloosa Iowa on an investigation of checks found with him. he is expected to be returned to Neosho County for trial on a car theft charge involving T F Allday’s vehicle.

Salt Type Fertilizer Used to Thaw Ice

Manhattan Kansas the AP reports an expert advises using salt type fertilizers to melt ice on sidewalks with grass or trees to avoid lawn or tree damage. Ray A Keen of Kansas State University horticulture says these fertilizers work like salt and also provide traffic fertilizer benefits. Boeing lands 300 million Saturn main stage contract

The U S government awards Boeing Co of Seattle a 300 million contract to develop and test 24 S-1B Saturn main stage rockets for a moon mission. The work, through 1966, will employ about 5 000 people and may adapt to an improved S-1B or Nova option for three man crews. U N Troops Seize Two Katanga Strongpoints In Elisabethville

U N forces drove into Elisabethville and captured the Lido Hotel and a railroad tunnel strongpoint as heavy fighting raged. Katangian troops retreated toward Kipushi and Kolwezi while the city suffered shelling and outages. Nederlandse sources say Tshombe headed toward Kipushi.

Foster Relatives Grow for Chinese Girl in Need

Lee Shu Yung an eight year old refugee from Communist China lives in Hong Kong with five siblings. She gained about 300 foster relatives in Canada and the United States who donated 18 000 pennies to support her care through the Foster Parents Plan. Ed Kreiger radio program spurred the penny drive two weeks ago. The Foster Parents organization says Lee is one of six children living with a widowed mother. Pennies will fund clothing and food for Lee.

Weather outlook for Kansas cold snap with mixed precipitation

Freezing drizzle or snow blanketed Kansas with lingering freezing rain tonight and Sunday as a light mix of rain and snow spread through eastern counties. Temperatures ranged from 10 to 35 with statewide moisture traces and snow cover of 4 to 6 inches in the north.
