Captain Joe B. Jordan piloted a Lockheed F104C Starfighter to 103 395.5 feet, a new world altitude record. Area Census In District 12 Ended After Field Work
Field workers in district 12 of the farm census completed their assignments yesterday under crew leader Orval Cox of Fredonia. The district covers Wilson County and the western half of Neosho County. Young Improved Gun Accident Fatal To McPherson Tot
Four year old James Holley died after a .38 caliber revolver discharged while he played in the family car at home. The bullet struck him and he later died at the University of Kansas Medical Center after a lengthy illness. His barrel loaded firearm was in the glove compartment of the family car. James was the son of Mr and Mrs James Holley Sr of 701 South Highland. The incident was reported by Sheriff Ivan Peden. The boy had previously been hospitalized for double pneumonia.

Shotgun Killing Shocks Kansas City Neighborhood
Melvin L. Meinsen, 33, a Kansas City hoodlum, was killed by shotgun blasts as he approached the front door of his home Tuesday night. Mrs. Meinsen and her 13 year old daughter Shelia were inside the doorway. police suspect an intruder identity. It was the first gang type killing in Kansas City since 1956, according to Major Jack Harvey. Meinsen had a prior arrest in 1958 for a bogus check racket. The home had been searched December 3 with nothing taken. police believe the killer knew Meinsen’s identity.
