Chanute JayCees report fourteen entries in the outdoor Christmas decorations contest with eight in the southwest ward, four in the northwest ward, and two in the southeast ward. Winners will receive ward certificates and a grand plaque, with a traveling trophy for the winning church in a separate category.
A Flying Tiger Constellation failed to land and plunged into a San Fernando Valley block near Lockheed Air Terminal killing nine people including four aboard the plane and five in affected homes. The Civil Aeronautics Board opened an inquiry as fire consumed six homes and two businesses.
Mrs. Charles Cable, near Savonburg, shot a bobcat from a tree after her dogs alarmed her. The 10 pound animal, spotted in the tree, is believed to be the culprit behind months of missing eggs, chickens, and baby pigs from the Cable farm.

Darold Petty, 25, of 301% E. 2nd, pleaded guilty in probate court to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was sentenced to a year in the county jail. Police tied him to a drinking party at his apartment where a 14 year old was taken into custody for intoxication after he allegedly bought liquor with Petty’s money. The juvenile, awaiting a hearing, was later sent to the Boys Industrial School at Topeka.
