Tragic Train Bus Crash Kills 20 Children in Colorado

A Union Pacific streamliner struck a Greeley area school bus carrying rural children near Evans Colorado. At least 20 aboard died and others were injured as rescue efforts began at a temporary morgue in downtown Greeley. The crossing lacked flashing signals and the driver faced no charges yet.

Local bowler posts 709 series at Tip Top Lanes Hum boldt

Dick Cornell of Iola with the BMA All Stars rolled a 709 series at the new Tip Top Lanes in Humboldt with games of 278 222 and 209. The score tops Humboldt alleys since opening last September and places Cornell in the Over 700 club. Prior high was Don Friederich of Chanute with 685 on Nov 8.

Wichitan Dies of Exposure in Abandoned House

Eugene R. Landry 56, a discarded bottle seller, was found dead in an abandoned house. Coroner cites exposure as the cause, with death occurring shortly before midnight Tuesday as temperatures registered zero.

Edna Stark eleven was struck and knocked down by a car on Third Street near Murray Hill school around 12 55 pm yesterday but suffered only scratches and bruises. The vehicle was driven by Mrs John Mitchell twenty six who reported the accident. the girl ran into the street from in front of a parked car.

U N Planes Strafe Katanga Area In Congo

Indian bombers and Swedish jets attacked Katanga troop positions around Elisabethville. Newsmen observed from Prince Leopold Hospital after mortar damage. Jets struck Kenya township near the army HQ, dropping from 6000 feet with heavy troop and vehicle concentrations nearby.

Mystery Blast In Home Here Claims Little Damage

An explosion in the bathroom of Mrs. Gladys McCoy s home at 418 is believed to stem from a gasrenor and hot water tank. Minor burns to her face and arms and scorched ceilings walls curtains were reported. Relatives found no gas leak after the first blast and city workers noted the tanks were still burning after the blast last night.

Post Office Here Will Remain Open All Day Saturday

Grandma Moses Dies at 101 in New York State

Hoosick Falls mourns Grandma Moses a 101 year old primitive artist famed for Christmas card images. She painted after age 75, lived at Hoosick Falls Health Center and died peacefully at 3 15 p m after a long decline from heart ailment. Fumes Fatal To Caney Girl in Gas Stove Incident

Caney Kansas 17 year old Anita Ann Van died after inhaling fumes from a gas stove in the living room early today. Parents woke at 4 am and called a doctor but she could not be revived. A defective flue is blamed. the girl slept in a rear bedroom with door open while parents’ room door was closed.

Icy Paving Triggers Erie Car Collision At Main and State

At about 8 10 today at Main and State in Erie two cars collided after Beeler Jr. 36 Erie R 3 skidded on icy paving and braked near a stop sign. Beeler s 1956 Chevrolet suffered 50 in damage while Stotts 41 Erie ended with 100 damage to his 1955 Dodge. A similar crash occurred at the same intersection yesterday morning.

A new American Committee for Aid to Katanga Freedom Fighters likens Katangans to Budapest rebels and urges U.S. action. The group lists 81 sponsors including Sen.
