Chapman Tot Fatally Burned In Subzero Kansas Home
A six month old boy, Joseph P. Evon III, died after rolling from a mattress onto a floor furnace while the family slept in Chapman Kansas east of town. His mother walked barefoot a mile in subzero temperatures to summon help as flames were smothered. The mother and three surviving children were taken to Ft. Riley for care and treatment. the home lacked food and water and clothing.
