State funds totaling 400489.50 will be distributed to Washburn University and 14 state junior colleges this week. Washburn receives 60351.50 from municipal university fund. junior colleges get 3 per credit hour for Kansas residents. Donald R. Harbold of Chanute received a 5 to 10 year sentence in the Hutchinson state reformatory on a second degree burglary charge. The court will consider an evaluation by the State Reception and Diagnostic Center for possible psychiatric treatment. Harbold pleaded guilty November 14 to the burglary, admitted breaking into the Owl Drive Inn at 1702 S. Santa Fe to obtain beer in the early hours last June 5.

Dr. Orlando Antonio Balea, 38, formerly of Cuba, has joined the Southeast Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital staff in Chanute after fleeing Cuba with seven others by boat. He arrived from Winfield where he worked since September, and plans to reunite with his wife Adelia and three sons in Chanute.
Neosho County begins mass polio immunization for school children tomorrow in Chanute Erie and nearby areas. Adults and pre school children may get vaccines Sunday at Chanute and Erie centers with 25 cent charges for non students. A Washington laborer Warren Swanson rushed a pellet gun into U S District Court injuring no one but Hoffa avoided harm. Hoffa and the jury were in the hall when the assailant fired several pellets prompting marshals to subdue him as spectators clashed with guards.
A Chinese cultural delegation departed Peking for a visit to Cuba on invitation of the Cuban National Cultural Committee, according to Peking radio.
The Indian Claims Commission ruled the U S government liable to compensate the Osage Indians for the difference between 1810 land values and amounts paid for lands in western Missouri and southern Iowa. The Osages must prove the 1810 fair value and inadequacy of payments, with potential claims spanning about 10 million acres across Missouri and Arkansas.

The 68 by 50 inch piece with a rooster design was insured for 750 dollars but Burge, the Student Union director, says its value exceeds that.
A 1962 two ton International truck stolen from Harold Wright farm southeast of here was found in St Paul. The Erie sheriff's office said it was left on Main Street in the business block after being driven only a few miles. Investigators believe it may have been borrowed to move a stuck car and noted marks suggesting a chain was attached.
