Vern Miller leads Wichita bookmaking raid network

Kansas Attorney General Vern Miller and local officers raided four Wichita sites and coordinated with Johnson and Wyandotte counties to disrupt a large bookmaking ring. About 35 officers searched two private clubs a liquor store and a home while five arrest warrants were issued in nearby counties. Officials expect the operation to net 60000 to 100000 dollars weekly. Suspects will be interrogated to uncover gambling links across three counties.

Price Increases Approved for 1973 Autos by GM and Ford

The Price Commission approved higher prices for 1973 automobiles to cover added costs from safety and anti pollution equipment. GM can raise an average 1.53 percent or 54 per car while Ford's approved increase is 1.9 percent or 62.55 dollars per car, down from an initial 2.78 percent.

Spelunkers announced a 6000 foot corridor connects Mammoth Cave system in Kentucky with Flint Ridge Cave system, extending the combined network despite depths of 12 to 15 feet of water and chin high passages. Two Drivers Hurt in 3rd and Western Collision

At 3rd and Western on Friday afternoon two drivers sustained minor injuries. Mrs Gladys Holladay 75 of 220 N Grant bruised leg and Peggy North 18 of 1101 W Main suffered a nose bleed. Holladay cited for running a stop sign. Estimated damage totals 500 to Holladay and 800 to Nordt.

Humboldt Runaway Girls Located in Louisiana

Two Humboldt girls reported as runaways were found in Alexandria Louisiana on Friday. Police Chief Floyd Nelson identified them as Christina Hegwald 15 and Terri Lynn Gumm 17. The parents traveled from Humboldt to collect them.
