Dairy Meet Draws 75 Members From Eight Counties

Bank computer crash leaves Hanover Trust accounts off balance

New York AP reports a 24 hour outage at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co disrupted 3 billion dollars in deposits. An IBM Model 7074 computer failed causing balance issues from 11 a.m. Monday to 11 a.m. Tuesday with 700 000 daily transactions affected. Backup plans shifted workload but other institutions were busy. five hours late in finishing books.

Motorcycle Rider Hurt In 3rd and Forest Crash

Jim McCoy, 17, of 407 S La Fayette is treated at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a 3rd and Forest collision with a 1960 Chevrolet pickup driven by Edward L. Johnstone 48 of 223 W 4th. The motorcycle rider Tom Dicks 15 of 422 W 4th suffered bruises and abrasions. both vehicles damaged.

Police hold five suspects, four adults and one 14 year old, linked to arson burglary larceny and property damage across Chanute and nearby towns. Europeans Tour Ash Grove Cement Plant in Chanute

Eighteen European cement industry officials from Germany Sweden and Denmark visited Ash Grove Portland Lime and Cement in Chanute to tour the plant after a Chicago seminar. They planned tours of plants in Denver and Albuquerque and were to continue their Chanute visit with lunch before afternoon departures.

Avery Urges Attention To Marketing

Kansas Gov. William H. Avery urged Oklahoma and Kansas oilmen to focus on marketing problems rather than pushing higher output. 4-H Leaders Are Honored At Chanute Recognition Dinner

About 200 people from four counties attended the annual 4-H leaders recognition dinner at Murray Hill school. The event was co sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce agricultural committee and 34 Chanute firms with Floyd Potter presiding.
