Senior High foods class led by Mrs. Adelgren proves a four person breakfast can cost 76 cents, with eggs bacon cereal fruit hot bread and drinks. The project involved 21 participants planning and preparing the meal on a modest budget.
Erie city officials report progress on a low water dam on the Neosho River south of town. Easements from 12 landowners are being secured, with plans to seek state approval in Topeka. The 220 foot dam would sit east of the river bridge on solid rock and create a three mile upstream impoundment.
Several hundred children with parents lined Main Street to greet Santa Claus in a red suit and white trim from an eastbound convertible. A festive parade featured seasonal music and many new cars as the celebrity chatted with youngsters about Christmas wishes. Santa plans more Saturday visits before Christmas and a return on Monday December 24.

Lloyd Evans of Garnett, about 60, is in Erie custody on a charge of issuing a no fund check for 38 dollars to the Chanute City Court. He allegedly passed the check to pay a fine tied to his son’s assault and battery case. Evans was arrested by Anderson County officers at the request of Neosho County and placed in Erie jail. bond set at 1000 dollars. hearing scheduled next.

Mrs Ethel Williams of Chanute and Harold E Smith of Wichita were involved in a two vehicle crash on K39 four miles east of Chanute at about 230 pm Friday. Williams attempted a U turn at an intersection and did not see the other car until too late. No injuries were reported. Williams car sustained front end and left side damage while Smiths car owned by Clarence Smith Chanute received front damage.
Carl Miller of near Lawrence files in district court seeking 3400 damages from the Kansas Turnpike Authority over a spring fed pond that allegedly drained after turnpike construction. He says he must build another pond and haul water.
In Andover Kansas two women Mrs Margie Parsons and neighbor Mrs Geneva James were killed in a dispute tied to a restraining order. Earl Parsons sought by police died later from a gunshot wound after a Winfield car crash following a statewide alert. A .22 pistol was found in the vehicle.
Dr. Cecil Snyder of Winfield Kansas was elected treasurer at the Western Surgical Association annual session held yesterday.
A huge sweptwing B52 crashed during takeoff from Castle Air Force Base California killing all ten aboard. Witnesses described a streak of fire and explosions as wreckage scattered over several miles, marking the third fatal B52 crash in California that year with nine bodies found in a group.
A U S Air Force B47 Stratojet crash survivor, Maj. Robert M. Slane, was picked up by a Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter at Ray Lake and moved to a Port Arthur hospital. The rescue followed searchers reporting a cross-shaped fire near Seagal Lake and sightings of parachutes as the plane went down in snow covered timber and rocky hills.

In Kansas City two people pleaded guilty to harboring fugitives. Raymond Louis Post, 31, received a five year prison term while Janita Linder, 24, a waitress, was placed on five years probation. They hid three men involved in a kidnapping of a grocery store manager and a newspaper photographer in Johnson County, Kansas, and transported them into Missouri last August.
Washington reports the FHA insured home loan rate increased to 5 percent with a 0.5 percent insurance premium unchanged. Administrators Cole and Mason announced the change aimed at helping homebuyers obtain financing. The GI loan limit remains at 4.2 percent, and Rep. Ayres predicted Congress may amend the law next year.

Fire damaged the headhouse of the Teich Grabber Milling Company elevator in Emporia early today. The upper portion sustained damage to motors and gear boxes. Fire Chief C C Johnson provided no loss estimate.
