Jet Fighter Crashes Near Olathe Killing Pilot
A Cougar jet fighter from the nearby Naval Air Station crashed on farmland five miles northeast of the Olathe base, killing the sole occupant. Betty Tinberg, who runs a general store, reported hearing the aircraft in trouble and her 8 year old daughter witnessed the craft appear to explode before ground impact as wreckage scattered widely. The pilot's identity was not released.

Two Tons of Garbage Lifted for $530
In New York City three sympathic garbage collectors dumped two tons of refuse into a Bronx street so a woman could recover $530 she had placed in a garbage can. Mrs. Rosalie Mirabel, a 32 year old stationery store operator, recalled the money and halted the truck. The men sifted through the garbage for 30 minutes and found the envelope. She awarded them a $5 reward.
