Telephone Bills Are Bigger Now By KCC Action

The Kansas Corporation Commission approved permanent rate increases for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Kansas, raising annual revenue by 2.4 million and targeting a 6.54 percent return on 202 million in plant. Individual residence lines rise 15 to 50 cents monthly, two party lines 5 to 30 cents, and business lines 15 to 65 cents, with rural rates unchanged. 4,470 customers in 22 cities will save about 109,280 yearly from mileage charge eliminations. Color telephone charge drops 1.50, extended area service charge drops 2.50 in certain zones. Southwestern Bell had sought 5.7 million more yearly revenue for 7.5 percent return.
