Proper Purpose Of Churches Is Function
Dr George W Crane argues against lavish single church buildings and urges using funds to serve multiple congregations. He cites a Chicago church with a long rectangular sanctuary that distances the preacher from worshippers and hides the choir, advocating crescent or semi circular designs for better sight and sound and stronger congregational impact. He stresses that eye contact and visible choir enhance worship, and questions spending a million dollars on one edifice when ten smaller ones would better engage youth and community.

Arkansas City Symphony Band Evolves and Welcomes Women
The group in Arkansas City underwent name changes and combined band and orchestra to form the Arkansas City Symphony Band. Two smaller bands formed by Frank Lewis and theater orchestra director Ernest Hatley later dispersed. Women were barred until 1953, a tornado scare during a concert sparked jokes, and under director William B. Johnson Jr. the band persisted with summer park concerts and regular appearances in the Alkalalah parade and Halloween event.
