Stearns County Sheriff Peter Lahr said David Hoskins 30 confessed to shooting his wife Loretta 29 and their four children Julie 6 Darla 5 Linda 1 and baby David 6 weeks then setting a fire that destroyed their central Minnesota farm home. Hoskins survived with two bullet wounds and is hospitalized.

Allen Bower 19 of Toronto Kansas died in a two-vehicle crash on K57 two miles west of Colony Kansas. The Highway Patrol said his car slid across the highway at a curve before colliding with a transport truck. Bower was alone in the car.
An intercepted letter describes a law student asserting he cracked the code of a large cash giveaway. He says he has only gained satisfaction and a stack of winning cards, with no money received yet.
Lewiston Idaho police Sgt. Jack Fannan was suspended 15 days without pay for not growing his hair long enough. Police Chief William Silver said the haircut resembled a Gestapo style. Fannan appealed, claiming his look dated to his joining the force, but the appeal was denied.
Police cited Richard L. Youngberg, 20, of 702 S Highland for careless driving and leaving the scene after a car hit a parked vehicle in the 200 block of South Evergreen and fled. His car matched the suspect vehicle and he later came to the station. The parked car owned by Frances Myers sustained left rear damage while Youngberg’s car had right front and side damage.
