At the 31st Republican National Convention in Kansas City Ford secured 1,145 delegate votes, 15 over the threshold, as Reagan failed to force disclosures on a running mate. Reagan trailed with 1,042, while 72 remained uncommitted amid a rancorous, platform driven session.
Neosho County commissioners consider replacing a steel truss bridge with a three ton limit near St. Paul after 112 residents signed a petition. The project aims to replace the aging structure with a constructed bridge at or near the current site, with a short remaining life for the old span.
Sunny hot weather today and Thursday with highs in the mid 90s and clear warm nights. County officials engage a Topeka firm to design a new bridge at the present site with an estimated cost around 300000 and design fees near 18000. Federal aid could cover 75 percent, with 25 percent county share, contingent on compliance and possible right of way or re alignment.
