Kissinger planned Tokyo stopover en route to a Nixon Tanaka summit in Honolulu at month end. Tho said his trip was routine and offered no new meaning.
Critics of the trans Alaska oil pipeline prepare to appeal a court ruling lifting a two year ban on construction. Judge George L Hart Jr. Tuesday raised the injunction he imposed in April 1970, noting the Interior Department has now met legal requirements.

The Neosho County Red Cross Chapter aids Project Find a federal effort to enroll seniors 60 plus in food stamps and food distribution. Contacts run Aug 15 to Nov 15 through volunteers who will help with applications transportation and appointments coordinated by the county welfare office. Supervisors are Mrs Catt E Wortman and Mrs H C Olin with a Coffeyville meeting attended by John Kirkwood and the Olins.

Former Atty. Gen. Ramsey Clark told a Senate subcommittee that continued U S bombing of North Vietnam makes any release of American POWs unlikely. He said North Vietnamese leaders appeared surprised by the risk of releasing prisoners after the war and cited destruction of dikes, schools, hospitals, and civilian areas during his two week North Vietnam visit.
London AP reports Britain's 42,000 longshoremen suspended the 20 day strike after delegates voted 53 to 30 to accept a settlement from a joint union management committee. Militants warned a sellout could keep workers from obeying the order in major ports.
U S planes carried the deepest and heaviest strikes in North Vietnam in a week and renewed attacks on the northwest rail line to China. One MIG 21 was shot down as three fighters attempted interception, marking the 159th MIG downed by U S crews in the war and the 48th this year. Air Force Navy and Marine fighter bombers conducted more than 29 strikes against targets in North Vietnam.
A 108 member Republican Platform Committee heard liberal voices urging an unqualified pullout from Vietnam and busing to aid desegregation. They also pushed for legalized marijuana. A group of 75 Republican women led by Shirley Temple Black urged stronger women’s rights planks and more positions for women at all levels of the party.
Washington AP reports chief surgeon Dr. George A. Hallenbeck intends to operate on Governor George C. Wallace to shrink a large abscess described as a sleeping pocket on the right side of his abdominal cavity. Doctors say no spreading infection is currently suspected but fever or other complications could follow.
