Melbourne captain faces court martial over Evans collision
Canberra says the Australian carrier Melbourne’s commander Captain John P. Stevenson will stand trial for failing to give a positive direction and for not ordering engines to go astern after the collision with the U S S Frank E. Evans. The Evans sank in the South China Sea on June 3 during a SEATO exercise with 74 sailors lost. The court martial begins August 20 in Sydney.
