The Osawatomie Kansas DeMolay chapter aims to set a new record by fishing 168 consecutive hours. Teams of two or three began at 3 p.m. Sunday at a farm pond west of Osawatomie and will continue until 3 p.m. next Sunday. The current record is 82 hours set by DeMolays in Kenosha Wisconsin.
Enemy casualties rose as three days of heavy fighting persisted north of Saigon and in coastal lowlands. U S bombers mounted their heaviest raids in months while analysts call the offensive a fall push. Casualty figures cited include 100 to 125 American dead and 600-plus wounded.

Washington AP — Personal income climbed sharply in July with a $6 billion advance to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $752.3 billion. Wage and salary disbursements rose $5 billion led by a $3 billion boost in government payrolls tied to the final stage of December 1967 federal pay raises. Private sector wages gained $2 billion as construction payrolls held steady amid strikes. For the first seven months, incomes averaged $735.3 billion, about 9 percent higher than a year ago.

Erie County commissioners adopted the Neosho County budget for 1970 after a hearing attended only by the commissioners and county attorney. The budget totals 2 886 594 84 dollars with a tax levy of 27 24 per thousand, down from 27 64 in 1969. Valuation rose to 40 790 417 from 39 803 107, an increase of 987 310.
