Land judging school invites Allen County farmers near LaHarpe
County agricultural agent Gale Mullen announced a land judging school at 1:30 p m Tuesday at the Johnnie Tomlinson and Ralph Evans farms located one mile east and two miles south of LaHarpe. Helpers include Harold Harper Richard Googins Fred Kruger and Deane Seaton. The program aims to show soil class differences and best uses. The Erie Saddle Club will present a show at the Neosho County Fair opening Aug 30 with prizes for winners and several events for young riders under 14 including a musical chair race and a potato race with no entry fees. Five contests require a 1 entry fee each: pony express relay pole bending calf roping and pleasure class. Calves must be furnished by contestants in calf roping. Saddle club with most members and the club from the greatest distance each win 10.

Growth Spur Helps Rochester Teen Win Soap Box Derby
Richard T. Rohrer, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Rochester, N.Y., won the All-American Soap Box Derby crown in Akron with a 975 foot gravity race in 27.25 seconds. He earned a $5,000 college scholarship to Georgetown and said his growth helped him rebuild his Home-made racer after outgrowing the first car. Rohrer beat Detroit’s David C.
