Secretary of State William P. Rogers told the Platform Committee in Miami Beach that the administration will pursue a negotiated peace in Vietnam rather than the Democrats call for immediate and complete withdrawal.

Enrollment for night classes will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in room 105 at the race. Thirty eight courses are offered this fall including psychology anatomy typing and police work. Grandparents from Ottawa Kansas say the baby born before marriage was placed for possible public adoption but Kevin says his father duped them into permanent custody.
Kenneth Sanborn city manager outlines four options for firms to move trash to the landfill. They can hire an independent hauler or contract with the city, obtain a yearly zero cost city license to haul with their own trucks, or pay landfill fees per trip if their trash is light. He stresses the city will not solicit hauling contracts but will step in if no independent hauler is available to prevent trash buildup.
Layna Knight, 16, of Neodesha will represent Kansas in the Miss Teenager contest in Atlanta, Georgia, August 23 to 26. Knight won a $750 scholarship after competing with 32 Kansas entrants in Kansas City, while other scholarship recipients included Pamela Benage, Janet Hecht, Kim Wetzel, and Karen Wilson. Knight is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Harlyn Knight and niece of Rev and Mrs Harold Knight of Chanute.

The Atomic Energy Commission aims to establish a 25 million dollar atomic waste disposal operation near Carlsbad New Mexico. The project would dig deep graves and cover them with salt. Sen Joseph Montoya says 100 to 150 workers would be employed with at least 90 percent hired locally and local officials reportedly approve the pilot project. In Miami Beach Florida police briefly cleared about 50 demonstrators from Flamingo Park as they prepared for the Republican National Convention, then allowed returns at sunrise.
Washington reports Henry Kissinger is in Paris for a secret Vietnam negotiation session with Le Duc Tho and Xuan Thuy. It is the 16th such session, and the third in six weeks, according to White House press secretary Ronald Ziegler.
