October Draft Call Sets Army Quota at 17 000
The Defense Department issued a draft call for 17 000 men in October all for the Army. This is the largest monthly draft quota since December. The Army faced a lag in reaching its targeted strength and was about 15 300 short at month end. Total drafted or earmarked since September 1950 reaches 2 101 430. Cause of Explosion Sought at Niagara
Investigators sought the cause of a million dollar blast at the Olin Mathieson Chemical plant in Niagara Falls that killed three men Herman C. Strablow 29 John Maule Jr 34 and Francis Kramarik 22 and injured 17.
