Hospital consultant Louis Block noted residents near small towns still travel to larger city hospitals.
Four Santa Fe directors were re-elected to four year terms at the annual meeting in Topeka. The directors named were George F. Getz Jr. John L. McCaffrey Kenneth V. Zwienier and J. Luther Cleveland. More than 89 percent of outstanding shares voted.
A federal court jury in Springfield Missouri convicted Clifford J. Hance Jr. and Bob Neal Carson of counterfeiting. They denied links to seven others who pleaded guilty to operating a bogus money ring near the Irish Wilderness northeast of Alton. The jury deliberated about an hour. Hance and Carson are free on $25,000 bonds. Judge R Jasper Smith set sentencing for May 16.
Leavenworth police arrested three people in tavern raids with whisky found at all locations including a pitcher in one. Attorney General William Ferguson ordered Leavenworth County officials to halt liquor sales or face state action and urged ongoing enforcement through local authorities. He met with Ethan Potter and Robert Woodson to stress continuing pressure on liquor law violations.
A 20 year old mother of three, Rhonda J. Church, was killed when struck by a car driven by her husband, Fred Die Church, on a county road north of Deerfield Kansas. She had stopped to flag her husband, who said he did not see her in time to stop while they were en route to a relative’s home.
