In England a black cairn terrier named Sherry inherits 80457 dollars from owner Vera Rae who died last December after entrusting the dog to Mapleoak Kennels. The will directs the money to six animal charities after Sherry’s death and sets the kennel bill at about 7.20 weekly with deluxe treatment starting today.
President Nixon asked Congress for a penny increase on most letter rates and a major overhaul of the Post Office Department within 45 days. The plan would raise first class to seven cents, postcard stamps to six, total over $600 million in the new fiscal year, with a projected $1.2 billion postal deficit without reforms.

Juror George Stitzel says the mental impairment claim did not negate a verdict of death for Sirhan Bishara Sirhan in the Kennedy assassination. Fellow juror Albert Federico cites the crime's gravity and cold blooded nature as decisive in imposing the death sentence.
Gov. Rob ert Docking vetoed a 27 million dollar school aid bill and another bill shifting state planning duties. He cites Legislature failure to enact revenue measures as the reason. The 1199 Kansas Legislature will reconvene Friday to consider the veto and other measures.
US B52 bombers carried out their heaviest raids of the Vietnam War near the Cambodian border, dropping over 2,000 tons along a 30 mile stretch northwest of Saigon. The attacks targeted Viet Cong and North Vietnamese bases in War Zone C and along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, while Viet Cong rocket and mortar actions remained light. John Erickson reports a Mills Chemical Supply Co fire loss with state fire marshal aid sought. Weather forecasts call for mild nights, with chances of showers Friday.
