In Chanute residents share mixed opinions on the new dial system. LaVerne Martin calls it sharp and faster, Rita Overby says it’s sharp and fun, while Mrs. H Joslin calls it a great invention. Others praise progress and accessibility, noting personal adjustment with numbers.
Chanute Senior High and Junior College students schedule three field trips to Tulsa and nearby areas this week. Future Nurses Club will tour St John’s Hospital in Tulsa with six other students joining Dr Roy Lawson as medical director. Artists Anonymous will visit galleries Gilcrease Philbrook and the University of Tulsa art department over a two day outing. Science and physics classes will tour Spencer Chemical Works Riverton Power Plant zinc mine Pitcher Oklahoma and other sites with a large group of students and instructors.
Theodore Feland, 25, a U S military adviser, plunged to his death from a fifth floor room at the Metropole Hotel in Saigon. An investigation is under way. Feland arrived in October 1960 and is survived by his widow in Junction City Kansas.

A 39 year old Kansas City cab driver died after a struggle on a second story balcony. A witness said John Harris pushed babysitter Donna Jean Long against a railing, then fell with her stepping aside. Harris sought the child, Francis Warner, as the Warners were away at a funeral. No charges against Miss Long.
Detroit AP reports a salesman praised a hearse in a used car lot and opened its rear door to reveal Robert Sarnia, 21, asleep inside. Sarnia received six months probation for vagrancy in Recorder's Court and was ordered to find a new place to sleep.
Tornadoes touched ground near Fort Scott Kansas and near Uniontown Kansas during a heavy storm. Locations reported two tornadoes south of Fort Scott and another near Uniontown with no reported damage though water covered highways. a small twister north of St. Joseph Missouri felled trees.
Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his wife left Walter Reed Army Hospital after overnight tests. Doctors said he is looking hale and hearty.

California inmates Dr RK Bernard Finch and Carole Tregoff were moved to separate institutions to begin life sentences for the am bush murder of Barbara Finch. Finch, 43, to Chino and Tregoff, 24, to Corona Women’s Facility. Parole eligibility in seven years.
A B47 jet bomber ran off the runway at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas early today and burned. All four crewmen escaped injury, but the aircraft was destroyed.
Crowley Louisiana patrolman Joe Leleux issued a ticket to a horse and buggy parked at a Main street meter. The buggy owned by Albert Carmstche had no windshield wiper, so the officer pinned the ticket to the harness and recorded the brand of the horse due to no license plate.
A cold front swept across Kansas, dropping temperatures up to 20 degrees and triggering heavy thunderstorms. Tornado funnels were seen near Uniontown and Fort Scott, with Uniontown flood impacts on the Marmaton River and two inch hail reported at Gridley.
A severe thunderstorm forecast covers parts of southwest Missouri southeast Kansas northeast Oklahoma and extreme northwest Arkansas. The alert warns of gusty winds and large hail 60 miles east and west of a line from Ponca City Oklahoma to Springfield Missouri from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. CST Friday.
