The Chanute Planning Commission will consider final adoption of two amendments to the Comprehensive Plan and review a mobile home permit request by Mrs. George Taylor. John Soloman seeks rezoning of frontage on W Mulberry and Plummer Road from residential to local business. A vacancy on the commission may be filled.

Kansas Governor Allows School Finance Bill to Become Law

Gov. Robert Bennett reluctantly lets the school finance bill become law without a signature. He cites overexpenditure of 17 million beyond his recommendations and warns of higher taxes if not curbed. The measure funds districts with 22 million in new state aid and a 20 percent income tax rebate, with a 7 percent budget increase and a 21 million property tax rise.

Chanute to Welcome JWARA Automotive Accessory Firm

A new business will start in Chanute with JWARA owned by John Butch Westall of Oswego. The operation at 535 N Malcolm will supply wholesale RV and new car dealer parts and provide installation of cruise controls CB radios and other options. Westall will keep his Oswego firm and expand service to Chanute, beginning with five employees and planned payroll growth.
