FBI kills hijacker during Denver jet exchange
FBI sharpshooters inside a jet airliner killed hijacker Roger Lentz as he moved from a light aircraft to a Convair 990 at Stapleton Airport. Hostages pilot Robert Blair and mechanic Harlan Hillers escaped unharmed after a two hour standoff that included threats and gunfire. Governor Lamm aided negotiations. Lentz had a prior flight record and threats tied to marital problems.
