Washington Senator Magnuson said the Air Force backs a plan to launch a manned Dyna Soar vehicle in September 1964. The aim is a manned flight to the fringe of space with controlled landing after earth orbit.
Bob Gadberry former radio newscaster and sports announcer will address the Chamber of Commerce dinner April 28 at the Masonic Temple in Wichita. He is a bank vice president and will discuss Inside or Outside. position noted as not heavy.
Kansas City AP reports twelve year old David Hokanson touched a 2300-volt power line while in a tree. His friend Jimmy Shannon, also 12, grabbed him three times and was shocked each time. David freed himself after his weight shifted, fell to a limb, and climbed down with burns on his hand and legs. Police say he survived due to not being grounded for a full jolt.
Police arrested Lawrence Richey at 631 S Evergreen on charges of driving while intoxicated reckless driving and leaving the scene. His 1954 Pontiac struck a 1953 Plymouth owned by Ernest Olson at 604 S Lincoln around 11 30. The right front of Richey’s car and left rear of Olson’s car were damaged. Richey was released on a 250 dollar bond and the hearing was set for 4 p m tomorrow in police court.
A group of city officials visited Winfield to view Winfield fire department gear as part of evaluating a new fire truck. The delegation included Mayor Dalice Rush, commissioners Harold Williams and Dave Evans, City Manager R. J. Hayes, and Fire Chief C. W. Brennan. They previously toured Newton fire equipment and inspected Mexico MO equipment on a commercial truck basis. The Chanute fire truck purchase, tied to Kansas Inspection Bureau requirements for insurance rate continuity, follows water system upgrades and the elevated storage tank project and distribution-line cleaning.
Two 19 year old youths, Jay Lea King and Carl Ray Chase, were sentenced to 5 to 15 years in a Kansas prison after pleading guilty to grand larceny in the Jan 4 theft of a car. They fled a running gun battle with Kansas City police and were captured near Parsons. They already faced 10 to 20 year terms in Ottawa for burglary and larceny in 1959, to be served after completing prior sentences.
Mrs. Melissa Willis, 27, faces a April 25 preliminary hearing on second degree manslaughter in her husband’s death. Arrained before Judge George M. Ashford she posted $2,000 bond. Police Lt. Floyd Hannon said she admitted stabbing him after he allegedly abused their daughter.

Dick Purdy mathematics and football coach will study higher algebra at Kansas State College of Pittsburg earning 105 dollars weekly.
The Eisenhower administration opposed bills to subsidize small domestic lead and zinc producers. Royce A. Hardy testified that import quotas largely meet their goal, noting pre-quota world surplus caused low prices and stockpiles. Since quotas, domestic stocks fell and zinc production rose about 40 percent with a 30 percent price gain.
Two R C Williams Truck Lines trucks collided at a rural Liberal intersection. Joseph Lawrence Kubitscheck aged 48 of Liberal died in the crash and Paul Roth, 21 also of Liberal, sustained a severe head injury plus fractures of the right leg and shoulder.
Forest R. Gaston 43 of Falls City Nebraska died in a collision between his truck and a Missouri Pacific freight train at 11 p.m. Monday in Kansas City Kansas.
Los Angeles AP Florence Aadland faces a Monday hearing on five counts alleging she contributed to the delinquency of her 17 year old daughter Beverly. The case stems from a party held three weeks ago at the Aadland apartment in Hollywood where a young admirer later died from a gunshot in the same unit. Beverly had been linked romantically to the late Errol Flynn.
Fidel Castro said there is some similarity between United States government policy and the regimes of Hitler and Mussolini. He expressed a wish for improved relations with the United States but declined to seek an interview with President Eisenhower or Secretary of State Herter, as quoted in Revolucion.
A congressional source says the White House will not reappoint Connecticut attorney William R. Connole to the Federal Power Commission, with his term due to end June 22. Wellington AP Lonnie E Tidwell 42 year old assistant cashier at Stock Exchange State Bank Caldwell killed himself in his cashier's cage with a .38 revolver. He died at Caldwell General Hospital. The coroner said no note was left and no clear reason was given by bank officials. Tidwell had been under medical care. He had worked at Caldwell bank for six years and is survived by his widow and two children.
Theft charges against two Kansas City policemen were dismissed in magistrate court after store managers failed to prove items were missing. Sgt. Richard J. Staab, 45, with 20 years on the force, and Patrolman Lloyd E. Warden, 26, had charges dropped. a third officer, Sgt. Riley Henderson, 29, had similar charges dismissed earlier.

Two children, William St. Dennis aged 3 and Jolene 20 months, were found dead in their beds from steam suffocation. Police and deputy coroners reported a broken relief valve on a steam radiator in the room where they slept. their mother, Mrs. Dorothy St. Dennis, said she woke to an apartment filled with steam vapor.
Two men died after a pickup truck struck a parked car in Kansas City Kansas. The victims were Theodore Hawkins 55 the driver and James Shannon 31 both of Kansas City Kas. Patrolman Henry Dolmar estimated the truck’s speed at about 70 miles per hour at impact.
