Fred L. Manley 73 president of Manley Transfer Co Inc died about 9 a m Sunday at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He lived at 318 N Forest Chanute. Manley expanded a local transfer service into a midwest truck transport firm and served in many civic roles. Born December 12 1886 in Erie he moved to Chanute at age 10 and later built a family business with his sons and relatives. Funeral set 2 p m Tuesday at First Baptist Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

About 1 160 people registered for the open house of Neosho Manor now Neosho County home for the aged in Neosho Sunday. The spacious lounge filled quickly and standing room ran out as hundreds sought to view the new facility. Administrator Norma Summers said the turnout exceeded expectations and the open house was to run from 2 to 5 pm with extensions to follow this week to accommodate visitors.

Manslaughter Case Underway in City Court
District court opened with jury selection in the fourth degree manslaughter trial of Charles Doudna, a city electrical department lineman, over the Halloween shooting death of 16 year old Jim McCune at Central Park. Yates Center Youth Killed In High Speed Crash
A Yates Center youth, 19 year old Richard Eugene Douglas, died after a one car wreck two miles north of Altoona on US 75. Another rider, 18 year old Jerry Lee Clemens, survived with multiple injuries and regained consciousness Saturday night. The car, apparently traveling fast, left the road, spun into a ditch, and was demolished with the front end and left side torn away. Funeral services for Douglas are planned for Wednesday at 2:30 PM with burial in Yates Center. his survivors include his parents, a sister, and five brothers.

50 Persons Arrested In Raid On Topeka Club
Fifty people were arrested in a raid at King's Place in Topeka for patronizing an illegal drinking club. Police say liquor was sold by the drink. Vernon King, co-owner, faced charges for selling liquor without a license and maintaining an open saloon. Bond posted for the group was $100 each. King was freed on $1,500 bond.
