A 19 year old hitchhiker Mrs Winifred Waters was held at police HQ in Fargo then sent to a hotel after funds ran low.

Gas Rate Increase Hearing Is May 7
The Kansas Corporation Commission schedules a May 7 hearing on a temporary rate increase approved for Union Gas Co. of Independence. Rev Latimer Injured in Collision with Freight Train
The Rev. Boyd Latimer of Grace Episcopal Church suffered a broken left collarbone when his car, a 1954 Oldsmobile, struck a Katy freight train at the US59 crossing near Humboldt. He was taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital and expected to be released today. Police Chief William P. Feeney cited reduced visibility from falling snow and noted the freight was stopped on the crossing headed west. the train crew was from Parsons.

171 Children Killed In Kansas During ’55
Topeka reports 171 school age children killed in the past school year. Of these 104 died in motor vehicle crashes and 2,602 sustained non fatal injuries among ages 5 to 19.
