Police officers Les Spencer and Charles Record faced a sudden mishap when the left front wheel collapsed during patrol on South Grant near Main at about 1 a.m. The cruiser was towed to the city garage and another car used. no injuries reported and patrol continued. Aerojet General Corp scientists unveil the hydrocket, a water jet propulsion system with no propellers that could raise hydroplane speeds by at least 75 percent. He parachuted to safety near Red Bud Illinois from Scott Air Force Base. The pilot escaped injury and the aircraft crashed without property damage. The jet was attached to the 85th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.
