US officials warn a sunken German submarine off Florida's West Coast near Tampa Bay carries nearly 200 tons of mercury and munitions. EPA official Howard Zeller ordered an investigation after a salvage operator found the sub submerged in 25 to 50 feet of water.
The U S Command reports 58 Americans killed and 542 wounded in combat last week, the highest death toll in a month and the largest wounded total in six months.
Gov Robert Docking urged Senate and House to back his plan setting a fixed annual spending lid. The measure would cap appropriations at the start of each session and allow only special bills that explain how any additional revenue would be raised to fund the proposal.
