Lone New York rabbi serves scattered South Dakota Jews
Mendel Alperowitz, a Chabad emissary, has moved to Sioux Falls to reach unaffiliated and isolated Jews across South Dakota. He visits homes, leads tefillin prayers, and aims to ensure no Jew in the state lacks a way to express Judaism, while balancing ties with Mount Zion and the Synagogue of the Hills. The 27 year old seeks deeper Jewish life beyond liberal practice.
