Plot to extort Tom Cruise suspect found dead at home
David Hans Schmidt 47 who faced up to two years in federal prison after agreeing to plead guilty in a scheme to extort more than 1 million from Tom Cruise over stolen wedding photos was found dead in his townhouse around 3 p.m. Friday, authorities said. Investigators noted a tracker on him had not moved and he appeared to have died by his own hand.
