In Atlanta Texas a nine story water tank burst during testing at an International Paper Co mill. One million gallons of water and debris collapsed into a pit, killing six workers and injuring twelve. W. C. Stack witnessed the collapse as crews struggled for hours to rescue. The tank was being tested for leaks when it failed without warning.

Dr Rocco to resign as superintendent of Braille school
Dr Frank Rocco 32 resigns as superintendent of the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton effective June 30. The State Board of Regents announced the move saying he seeks time to help select a successor and to explore other opportunities. Board president Stanley Redeker lauded Rocco as dynamic and creative and said replacing him will be difficult. Rocco has led the school since 1969 after earning a PhD from Michigan State and work with Missouri Bureau for the Blind.
