Amana Oktoberfest at Amana Iowa shifts leadership and adds twists
The sixth annual Amana Oktoberfest at the Middle Amana ballpark changes management from the Amana Jaycees to a citizens committee led by Reynold Moessner. Fees are dropped this year, with parade at 11 am featuring antique cars and bands, prize drawings at 1 pm and 5 pm, two stage shows in the Lakeside school auditorium, and German music and crafts highlighting Amana heritage. Proceeds from working shifts support charities, and campers may attend with limited Friday facilities and a Thursday start for registration and pre–show activities.

Boundary dispute could shift Union Electric taxes Iowa vs Illinois
Keokuk faces a potential Iowa Illinois boundary dispute over Union Electric Co. property tax. Illinois claims the Keokuk dam and generating plant lie in its state, while Iowa cites a long standing 50 50 tax split and the old navigable channel principle. The case hinges on historic maps and the middle of the Mississippi as boundary.

Pizza Nappers Challenge Police To Run Foot Race
In Dubuque a gang calling itself the Midnight Marauders leaves a note at police headquarters challenging a foot race against any police runner. The stake promises amnesty if the Marauders win, or a $500 charity donation if they lose, plus $250 for the department regardless. The race would cover 16 city blocks from the station to the town clock square and back. Police say they are regrouping forces and have not accepted the challenge.
